Queer-Feminist Writing from 1970s Turkey: A Conversation with Maureen Freely on Sevgi Soysal, by Ipek Sahinler Interviews [email protected] Tue, 08/06/2024 - 16:31 Maureen Freely (left) & Funda Soysal (right)Maureen Freely is an author, translator, and professor of English and comparative literary studies at the University of Warwick. Among her many translations is Dawn, by Sevgi Soysal, which transpires over one night spent in prison. A novel from the 1970s, Archipelago published the first English version, in Freely’s translation, in 2022. Sevgi Soysal’s daughter, Funda Soysal, joins the conversation from Istanbul. She goes into so many different heads, and there she makes visible the system in which everybody is caught.... Continue reading at 'World Literature Today'
