Facebook Debuts a New Push-Minded App for Publishers Called Notify

Facebook wants to become a one-stop shop for breaking news while giving media brands more mobile channels to reach viewers. The social media giant today launched Notify, an app curating push notifications from dozens of publishers and other media sources all into one place: your iPhone's lock screen. The app has an initial count of 70 "stations," as Facebook is calling them, including ABC, CNN, Comedy Central, BuzzFeed, Hulu, The New York Times, Vice and others. "Everyone has different interests, so whether you're into sports, celebrities, news, movies, music or shopping, Notify makes it easy to find notifications you're into with a broad selection of great 'stations' across a variety of categories," Facebook product manager Julian Gutman wrote in a blog post. The Menlo Park, Calif.-based tech giant hopes the app will be a place for sports scores, weather updates, news alerts and movie trailers. Users can pick and choose which notifications they want, and then content can be stored for later reading or sharing on Facebook. Notify is the latest addition to Facebook's stable of apps, which also includes the flagship brand, Instagram, Messenger, WeChat, Paper, Boomerang and Layout.  Indeed, publishers have a plethora of cross-channel options to reach viewers via Mark Zuckerberg's growing company.  Continue reading at 'AdWeek'
