New York Times Co., the newspaper publisher controlled by the Ochs-Sulzberger family, reported second-quarter profit that beat analysts' estimates as it drew more subscribers for its digital editions.Excluding some items, profit was 14 cents a share, the company said today in a statement. Analysts had projected $489.3 million on average. The New York Times Company slipped 4% to $11.69 as of 12:36 p.m. in New York. The shares have climbed 43% this year.Digital subscribers to the New York Times and its international edition increased 35% to 699,000, helping fuel the gain in total circulation sales.Advertising revenue, meanwhile, continued to fall faster than circulation sales are increasing.
