Nearly every corner of Queens swung toward Donald Trump and the Republican Party in Tuesday’s presidential election, a shift most pronounced in Latino and Asian enclaves. But Gregory Meeks, the powerful congressman and chair of the Queens County Democratic Party, sees “no need to panic” from what he views as a temporary boost to the GOP.“This election was basically a result of the pandemic,” Meeks told Crain’s from a buzzing ballroom at the Somos conference in Puerto Rico, where his party hosted a Thursday reception. He noted that governing parties across the world lost ground this year in a backlash to rising costs of living.“I don't take it as some kind of huge thing.
