Publishers welcome their new platform overlords. Twitter, Google, Facebook, Apple and Snapchat are all suddenly in the market for more publisher content. That means more competition, which publishers say puts them in the drivers seat. "There’s competition among the big distributors for content,” said Wall Street Journal's Edward Roussel. The rub: Deals with Facebook and Apple may look good now, but it's unclear how long they will last, or whether they will pay off. Still, publishers say the situation today is much better than 20 years ago, when AOL in particular controlled distribution.
