All You mag goes all-in for e-commerce

Joining a rising tide of magazines that are combining e-commerce with their articles and ads, Time Inc. women's title All You has begun connecting readers with retailers. Starting with the November issue of the magazine, a digital "watermark" guides readers via their smartphones to information on pricing and availability, and can then connect them with a local retailer.The service is being offered in a couple of articles and a shopping guide, but will expand to the entire print and tablet editions of the magazine with its December issue. The magazine is sold primarily in Walmart.All You announced the launch of the service on Tuesday. It has been offering a shopping capability in the tablet edition since May.Unlike some other magazines that have recently launched a shopping service on their tablet editions, including Hearst's Cosmopolitan and Conde Nast's Allure, All You is not yet embedding the capability in ads."We feel we're creating a more valuable product" by sticking to editorial, said All You Deputy Editor George Kimmerling.
