In a move to expand the healthy lifestyle publisher's mobile commerce, big data and social technologies, it has hired Condé Nast executive Bobby Chowdhury as its first ever chief technology officer.Mr. Chowdhury, 51, has a background mostly in music, with a father who was a classical composer and a degree in sound engineering. Mr. Chowdhury will help Rodale with upcoming data-driven projects and e-commerce."It was important to find someone with an entrepreneurial spirit who would be a true partner to all aspects of our business," said Anthony Astarita, general manager and senior vice president, digital and new brand development, at Rodale. "Bobby stood out as someone who could be a strong contributor to our strategic vision, our digital business, his expertise in e-commerce and running the technology for media companies like Condé Nast and Scripps Networks have set him up for success here."Mr. Chowdhury will report directly to Mr. Astarita, who built Barnes & Noble's Nook division and was selected by Rodale to oversee its digital initiatives. Since 2011, Rodale has begun to focus more heavily on its digital properties. In June, it became the first magazine in the U.S. to develop an app using Adobe Digital Publishing Suite.
