Innovative paid content programs and direct-to-consumer strategies are reshaping sustainable revenue models. When the formula is right, consumers have shown they are willing to spend a good chunk of change with publishers. McClatchy’s laser focus on election nerds Trying to create a subscription product around the highly commoditized category of election coverage seems risky on the surface.
