Wenner Media has named a new chief digital officer, David Kang, who becomes the third person to hold the position in less than a year. Wenner hired its first chief digital officer, Steven Schwartz, in 2009. He left in May for his old employer, Reuters. The next person in the job, Michael Bloom, stayed six months. Wenner hasn’t exactly been a trailblazer when it comes to the Web. Jann Wenner outsourced his flagship magazine’s website, RollingStone.com, to another firm until 2010. Us Weekly didn't even have a website until 2007 (which is perhaps why the site’s still in rapid growth mode; the company said uniques grew 53 percent to 9.3 million in the past year, citing comScore). Kang has moved around a bit himself lately, underscoring the demand digital media experts find themselves facing. He came from Hearst Magazines, which hired him in March from Rodale to develop content extensions of the company’s print and digital brands. As chief digital officer at Wenner, he’ll have P&L responsibility for the company’s digital businesses on all platforms. An amateur hard-rock guitarist, Kang might also have been sold on the chance to be involved with the iconic music magazine, Rolling Stone. He starts Jan. 20. Continue reading at 'AdWeek'
