Tisch’s NYPD house-cleaning is latest reform in Adams world

When the New York Police Department’s top uniformed officer abruptly resigned Friday following sexual abuse allegations, it was the latest major shakeup in Jessica Tisch’s short month running the NYPD. And it follows a pattern of what critics have called belated steps toward competence in Mayor Eric Adams’ administration.Tisch, a former sanitation commissioner who was appointed police commissioner by Adams on Nov. 20, took the helm of a troubled department: Her predecessor resigned under the cloud of a federal investigation, top chiefs were openly feuding with reporters and fighting amongst each other, and officers were leaving the department at high rates.Changes since then have been swift, if far from complete: Tisch reportedly reassigned hundreds of officers who had been improperly transferred from their assigned posts, which had contributed to short-staffing.
