City Council members signaled that they may reject Mayor Eric Adams’ pick to be the city’s top lawyer as they laid into the nominee, Randy Mastro, during a tense confirmation hearing on Tuesday that was ongoing as of midafternoon.Mastro, a prominent and accomplished attorney, faced hours of harsh questioning from left-leaning members of the 51-person council about his past service in Republican Rudy Giuliani’s administration and history of representing controversial clients in private practice. But Mastro’s reputation for aggressive litigating caught Mayor Adams’ eye, and Mastro mobilized a slew of big-name supporters who planned to testify on his behalf on Tuesday — including former Gov.
