Haruki Murakami's new novel due in English this summer

Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage, already topping charts across Europe, will be published in the UK in AugustHaruki Murakami's UK publisher has announced that the Japanese author's latest novel, which is currently topping charts in Germany, Spain and Holland, will be released in August in the UK.Harvill Secker said that Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage would be published in English on 12 August, in a translation from Philip Gabriel. The book sold one million copies in its first week on sale in Japan last April, and new translations in German, Spanish and Dutch are already topping bestseller lists, according to the publisher.Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage is the story of a man whose four best high school friends, Mr Red, Mr Blue, Miss White and Miss Black, ostracise him - he is colourless, because his name is the only one without a kanji symbol for a colour. It is, translator Gabriel told the Australian last year, "more tightly focused" than previous books by the author."1Q84 was much more epic in scope, while Tsukuru Tazaki is more lapidary, more tightly focused on one person's journey," he said.
