Amazon is making a move to become even more international. The online bookseller has just acquired the Book Depository International, a U.K. bookseller that distinguishes itself as being home to "the largest range of titles in the world." The terms of the deal have not yet been released, but the acquisition looks like an attempt to bolster Amazons already notable international presence. For international online shoppers, the Book Depository has been able to do it better than most. The seven-year old company says it can get books to customers in more than 100 countries within 48 hours of ordering, with free shipping. If that wasnt enough to woo readers, the company also has its own publishing arm, Dodo International, which republishes rare titles for wider consumption. Book Depository fans are less than thrilled about the acquisition if the Twittersphere is any indication. Some Depository customers are concerned about perks, such as free shipping, falling to the wayside, but the company is assuring its users this will not be the case, asserting that it will remain to operate independently.
