Longform journalism is having its moment, one that backers of recent print and digital magazines hope will linger like a 10,000-word New Yorker profile.Readers appear hungry for a more relaxed experience than the harried web.The hashtag #longreads took off on Twitter. Buzzfeed launched a long form section earlier this year and Business Insider hired former New York Observer editor Aaron Gell to edit long pieces. Medium, the long form site founded by Twitter alumni Evan Williams and Biz Stone, recently opened to the public after a year in beta.The popular music criticism website Pitchfork launched the quarterly magazine The Pitchfork Review. They weren’t the only website to go analog. In 2013, Politico launched two print titles, Politico Magazine and a quarterly policy magazine from subscription site Politico Pro.“There is still a desire for [print] magazines,” said Trish Hagood, president of MediaFinder.com, the database of U.S. and Canadian periodicals, which released its year-end numbers on Tuesday.Advertisers also appear to want in.
