Zoe Lofgren wants Netizens to help craft laws that protect the future of the Net itself. Zoe Lofgren, Chair of the House Ethics Committee, has published a thought-provoking article about the legal tactic of seizing of domain names when the owners are accused of copyright infringement. She wants to do something to prevent abuse of the system. Lofgren states her goal is to "develop targeted legislation that requires the government to provide notice and an opportunity for website operators to defend themselves prior to seizing or redirecting their domain names." Strip away the jargon there and you see something surprisingly up-to-date for a government figure: Awareness of where the cutting edge of tech and law are at odds with each other when it comes to copyright and online content.
