Cissy Houston, Whitney Houston's gospel-singer mom, has sold a book about her late daughter to HarperCollins Publishers, according to a person with knowledge of the deal. Ms. Houston, who is 78, met with publishers in New York in April to pitch them on the project, according to a report in The New York Times. The book is meant to set the record straight about her daughter and tell both the good and the bad, she told publishers. Whitney Houston had a troubled marriage and a long history of drug abuse before she accidentally drowned in a hotel bathtub the weekend of the Grammy Awards, in February. Steve Fisher, the Los Angeles-based agent representing Cissy Houston, concluded the deal with HarperCollins in recent weeks. Terms of the sale could not be learned, though insiders had expected the price tag to reach seven figures if Ms. Houston was willing to be frank about her daughter's troubles.
