[caption id="attachment_181520" align="alignright" width="171"] Adam Rapoport[/caption] Adam Rapoport, editor-in-chief at Bon Appétit since 2010, is stepping down from that role after a photo of him in an offensive Halloween costume resurfaced online Monday amid allegations from current and former staffers of racial discrimination at the magazine. As the screenshot spread on Twitter, Bon Appétit assistant food editor Sohla El-Waylly responded on Instagram by calling it "just a symptom of the systemic racism that runs rampant" at Condé Nast. Former senior staff photographer Alex Lau, who left the publication in December after six years there, backed up some of El-Waylly's claims in a Tweet thread, writing, "I left [Bon Appétit] for many reasons, but one of the main reasons was that white leadership refused to make changes that my BIPOC coworkers and I constantly pushed for." "This isn't solely a BA problem. This is a Condé Nast problem," he added. Several current staffers from Bon Appétit's test kitchen responded by pledging not to film new content until Condé Nast addressed the issues raised by El-Waylly. In an Instagram post announcing his decision to resign, Rapoport said he was stepping down "to reflect on the work that I need to do as a human being and to allow Bon Appétit to get to a better place." "From an... Continue reading at 'Folio Magazine'
