Women dominate the open-plan spaces, where assistants and lower-level managers sit. The offices allocated to senior management, those with decision-making power, are predominately taken by men.This unequal, if unsurprising, reality has come into focus in a survey of the industry undertaken by the Guardian, following up anecdotal reports that women were being kept out of the top tiers despite making up the bulk – an estimated 60%-80% – of the industry’s workforce.
