Time Inc. Names New Technology Chief

Time Inc. CEO Joe Ripp continues to fill out his leadership ranks as he prepares to spin off the publishing company from Time Warner later this year into a public entity. Today, he named Colin Bodell as evp and chief technology officer, a newly created role at Time Inc. Bodell will be charged with identifying and acquiring technology to be used across the company, with IT operations reporting to him. Bodell spent the past eight years at Amazon, where he headed the technology team for the Kindle store. Ripp also announced that Mitch Klaif, svp and chief information officer, would move into a new role working for CFO Jeff Bairstow, helping Time Inc. transition to an independent company. Ripp is under pressure to make the company look ship-shape as he prepares to sell it to potential investors ahead of the spinoff. In other recent moves, he replaced the top leadership at its biggest moneymaker People after reorganizing the company to have editors report to the business side.  Here's the staff announcement from Ripp below: As we prepare to go public, investing in technology and product development is one of our biggest priorities. To that end, I’m pleased to share the news that Colin Bodell will be joining Time Inc. as Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. In this newly-created position, Colin, who spent the past eight years as a senior executive at Amazon, will be responsible for shaping the overall strategic technology direction for the new Time Inc....
