Just two weeks on from reporting a large increase in profits, Gannett has announced the splitting of its broadcast and publishing divisions into separate companies. It means that Gannett's British newspaper outfit, Newsquest, will find itself as part of the publishing arm and, quite possibly, out on a limb.In describing the move as "bold" and "significant", Gannett's chief executive, Gracia Martore, spoke of increasing shareholder value "by building scale, increasing cash flow, sharpening management focus, and strengthening all of our businesses to compete effectively in today's increasingly digital landscape."
