Moviepilot’s Facebook defense: ‘We’re trying to increase our relevance.’

Moviepilot has doubled its traffic in the past year to become the sixth-biggest site for movie buffs. In the process, it’s become highly dependent on Facebook, which supplies 80 percent of its traffic. But well aware that Facebook can turn off the traffic spigot at any time, the site is launching a new digital magazine, under a separate url, that it hopes will provide a deeper reading experience and ensure its relevance, whatever happens with Facebook.
