Movie studio Legendary Entertainment, which owns digital publishers Nerdist and Geek & Sundry, wants to be less reliant on advertising (up to 75 percent of the company’s digital revenues still comes from advertising). In November, Legendary will launch a $5-per-month streaming app for new and archived content from those publishers. There is some evidence that its audience is willing to pay -- 23,000 Twitch users pay Geek & Sundry every month even though they don’t have to.
