Penguin Classics again breaks with publishing routine for ex-Smith, releasing glossy version of No 1 bestselling memoirHaving already bowed to Morrissey's demand that his autobiography be on an imprint usually reserved for the likes of Homer, Virgil and Henry James, Penguin Classics is set to break precedent again by releasing of a hardback version of the Smiths singer's memoirs seven weeks after the paperback was published.Priced at £30 and out on 5 December, the book appears to be aimed at the Christmas market, or at least at Smiths fans not too miserable for festive season shopping. The hardback edition takes a different tack from the clothbound covers usually associated with Penguin Classics hardbacks, featuring a glossy dustjacket with a photograph of the singer bare-chested in a swimming pool, wearing a medallion.Emphasising its value to collectors, Penguin says the book will be printed in full colour with a number of new images chosen by Morrissey and include a complete discography of his work. The paperback version shot to No 1 in the UK bestseller charts in its first week on sale, becoming one of the fastest-selling memoirs ever.MorrisseyAutobiography and memoirBiographyPenguinPublishingThe SmithsHaroon Siddiquetheguardian.com © 2013 Guardian News and Media Limited or its affiliated companies.
