Toy giant Mattel revealed its publishing plans to The Bookseller Daily at Bologna, including the dramatic shift of moving creation of Barbie assets in-house, plus new ranges for Thomas & Friends and Bob the Builder. Venetia Davie, vice-president of global publishing at Mattel, said that rather than designing Barbie-style guides for publishers, the company will now create artwork and editorial content in-house at its two creative centres in Italy and the US.
