Alexandra Clancy, the widow of best-selling author Tom Clancy of The Hunt for Red October and other classic spy novels, has something to show for a hunt of her own.Clancy has purchased a 6,300-square-foot penthouse on Leonard Street in Tribeca for $20.9 million, according to a deed that appeared in the city register Monday.Clancy, who was married to her husband from 1999 until his death in 2013, bought the triplex condo using a shell company whose name includes the word peregrine. The falcon reference apparently nods to Peregrine Cliff, the fictional estate of Jack Ryan, who is the CIA analyst-turned-U.S. President character at the heart of most of Tom Clancy’s 18 books. But a Peregrine Cliff exists in real life as well. Tom Clancy slapped the moniker on his own 537-acre Chesapeake Bay-fronting Maryland estate.Hugging the top three stories of its 16-floor tower at the corner of Broadway, the Tribeca aerie features five bedrooms, five full baths, two half-baths and three terraces, plus a primary suite with a sitting room and walk-in closet. The seller in the deal, which property records show went into contract March 26 and closed June 10, was the condo’s sponsor, the luxury developer Elad Group, which converted a prewar former insurance company building known for its clocktower with 167 condos. A $184 million sellout of the landmark site is planned, though the process seems slow. Sales at the site began eight years ago, and the project still hasn’t offloaded all of its...
