Entertainment Mags Pay Tribute to James Gandolfini

A day after news broke of actor James Gandolfini's death, entertainment magazines are lining up content to commemorate The Sopranos star’s life and work. An Entertainment Weekly spokesperson said that the magazine would include a tribute to Gandolfini in its “All Time Greatest” double issue, on newsstands next week, and that editors are reworking the cover to feature the actor. Incidentally, the issue, which covers the best of TV, movies, music and books, had already prominently included both Gandolfini and The Sopranos. EW is also honoring Gandolfini on its SiriusXM station where most of the day’s programming has been dedicated to the actor, and EW.com, where editors have gathered celebrity Twitter reactions to Gandolfini’s death, a list of his best lines on The Sopranos, a statement from the show’s creator David Chase, and more. A video tribute is currently in the works, said EW.com managing editor Bill Gannon. Gandolfini will “definitely” be making an appearance on the cover of next week’s TV Guide, said president and editor in chief Debra Birnbaum. The magazine’s staff—which Birnbaum said was “reeling” in the wake of the news—is also compiling a multipage tribute story for the issue, which goes out to subscribers on Monday and hits newsstands on Wednesday. While Vanity Fair was unable to comment on print plans, its website is covering the actor’s death with news updates, an In Memoriam penned by VF writer Juli Weiner and links to past Sopranos features (including...
