Colourful histories

There is something encouraging about seeing the name B T Batsford featuring so prominently in The Bookseller’s half-year round up. I don’t mean to show favouritism—it is equally pleasing to see Michael O’Mara (in its 30th year) and Laurence King also doing so well out of the shifting non-fiction scene—but Batsford strikes a chord simply because it is a business with such a long and, sorry, colourful publishing history.
