Americas Authors Guild presses US justice department to get aggressive with Amazon

The literary body, representing 9,000 authors, is calling on the US government to launch a competition investigation into Amazon, following the long-running dispute between the internet retailer and publisher HachetteAmericas Authors Guild has met with the US department of justice to call for an antitrust investigation into Amazon, slamming the internet retailers ruthless tactics of directly targetting Hachette authors in the dispute between the two corporations.The move follows a summers worth of public to-and-fro between Amazon and Hachette over the two companies failure to reach agreement on new terms for ebooks a stand-off that has seen Amazon quote delivery times to customers of up to three weeks on what Hachette says are thousands of its physical titles. The guild announced on Thursday that it had started its own initiative to invite governmental scrutiny of Amazons outsize market share and anticompetitive practices in the publishing industry.
