First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright is expected to leave Mayor Eric Adams’ administration, the New York Post and other outlets reported Friday, making her the highest-ranking City Hall official to depart in the wake of the mayor’s criminal indictment and the federal investigations that have ensnared Wright and several of her colleagues.Wright denied to the Post that she had stepped down, and multiple reports suggested she is leaving under pressure from Adams. The mayor is facing his own pressure from Gov. Kathy Hochul to clean house within City Hall following his indictment.News of Wright's expected resignation comes one day after her husband, Schools Chancellor David Banks said the mayor had pushed him to resign two months earlier than previously planned. Federal agents seized both Wright’s and Banks’ phones in early September and visited the Harlem home they share. Neither has been accused of wrongdoing, and Wright said last month she was “confident I have done nothing wrong.”Wright has been Adams’ highest-ranking deputy since 2023, when she was elevated to her current post that includes oversight of the city budget.
