In 2007, music professor Michael Marissen wrote an opinion piece for the New York Times, contending that the "Hallelujah" chorus of Handel’s "Messiah'" contained an undercurrent of anti-Judaism. Because of an overwhelming response to the column, Marissen has written a book to offer a more nuanced treatment of the topic, to be published by Yale just in time for Easter.
