Barnes & Noble Nook E-Reader Goes International

Barnes & Noble has finally scheduled the long-awaited international debut of its Nook e-reader. The company said Monday that it will begin selling its Nook Simple Touch and Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight in the U.K. in mid-October. The devices will be sold online through a new digital storefront, and also via some as-of-yet unannounced retail partners in the country. For Barnes & Noble, the largest bookstore retailer in the U.S. by far, this is an important push forward into the ebook sector, amid increasingly heated competition with Amazon, which already peddles its Kindle e-reader in the U.K. and other international markets.
