AOL Inc. agreed to buy Adap.tv for about $405 million, gaining online video advertising technology used by the world's largest brands and agencies.The price includes about $322 million in cash and $83 million in AOL common stock, subject to certain adjustments. Adap.tv will operate independently as part of AOL's video organization, led by Ran Harnevo, New York-based AOL said in a statement.The combination of Adap.tv and AOL will give the Internet company the ability to offer a wider range of video services to its advertisers and publishers—from original production, to content aggregation and now a programmatic video platform.In 2012, Adap.tv supported more than 26,000 global ad campaigns, which ran on approximately 9,500 websites, AOL said.Profit, excluding items such as restructuring costs and equity-based compensation expenses, came to 46 cents a share last quarter, AOL said in a statement. That compared with the 43-cent average of predictions compiled by Bloomberg. Advertising revenue, including display, search and network, rose 7% to $361.2 million.
